May 2018 Newsletter

Dear Members, We havea lot to cover in this one-month earlier edition newsletter,so I will be brief; I made a fatal mistake in the last newslettermentioning the weather, whereupon the “Beast from the East” appeared and sent us all back indoors again. I will say no more other than to ask you to read the article on GDPR 2018 carefully and reply. It would be nice if this stopped spam but like all legislation only causes problems for those who do not exploit the vulnerable. Even then I have my doubts!!Colin HughesRNWA President3 BarnesLane Sarisbury GreenSouthampton Hants.SO31 7DATel. 01489 573101Email:-colin_hughes1@sky.comThe usual format, style and content of the newsletter on this occasion is different to emphasise on the front page the importance of the following subject:-(GDPR) General Data Protection Regulation What is it, how does it affect theRNWA and you!?There are numerous papersand explanations on this subject so to summerise GDPR in a limited space the topics have been carefully selected so here goes:-“The aim of the GDPR is to protect all EU citizens (and those outside the EU dealing with an EU co.or organisation) from privacy and data breaches in an increasingly data-driven world that is vastly different from the time in which the1995 directive was established. Although the key principles of data privacy still hold true to the previous directive, many changes have been proposed to the regulatory policies; the key points of the GDPR as well as information on the impacts it will have on are as follows: -**Consent**The conditions for consent have been strengthened, andorganisationswill no longer be able to uselong illegible terms and conditions full of legalese, as the request for consent must be given in an intelligible and easily accessible form, with the purpose for data processing attached to that consent.Consent must be clear and distinguishable from other matters and provided in an intelligible and easily accessible form, using clear and plain language. It must be as easy to withdraw consent as it is to give it.
