RNWA Newsletter – June 2023

Foreword from the President

I hope you are all well and looking forward to the holidays, I was going to put summer before “holidays” but it has been so unseasonably cold that I don’t want to rock the boat by mentioning it. I am sure you will agree that the coronation went extremely well despite the weather, with the Royal Navy leading the way looking very smart. I must say the TV coverage was excellent compared to 70 years ago. I remember sitting cross legged on the floor in a neighbour’s house peering spellbound at a 9-inch black and white TV. How things have changed with the modern TVs you almost feel you are in the abbey, or part of the crowd.

I’m sure you will all join me in a rousing “God Save the King” and ‘Splice the mainbrace’.
On 9th March 2023 Pat McCarthy and Grahame Long accompanied by their wives visited the Defence College of Logistics, Policing & Administration (DCLPA) at Worthy Down. Feedback from both were enlightening and Pat McCarthy has kindly sent in written feedback which can be seen on the website. Don’t forget that the next scheduled visiting day is 13th July and applications need to be sent to me by 15th June, so not much time left if you want to join the next visit?

On the 3rd of May Lyn Gannon and I attended the Award ceremony at the DCLPA. The Ceremony was well organised and enjoyed by all. I presented the Writer of the Year Trophy to Logs (Wtr) Jack Roberts and Lyn took the pictures which she placed on Facebook the same day. I am still waiting for the official photographs as the photographer is on holiday, once I get the photographs they will go on the website. It was nice to meet Jack’s family and I hope to see him and his girlfriend (another Writer) at the Reunion dinner. Whilst at the Ceremony I met Rear Admiral Andy Kyte CB the Chief Naval Logistics Officer (CNLO) and I have invited him to be our Guest of Honour at the 137th Reunion Dinner on 11th October 2024 at the Royal Maritime Club, Queen Street, Portsmouth, PO1 3HS.

I am glad to report that the new link for the RNWA Committee & Members meetings via https://meet.google.com/ahs-afcg-smu is now working so please do try and log in on the meeting nights at 19:30 and be able to add your ‘two penneth’ to the meeting.
Thurs. 20th July Thurs. 21st September Thurs. 16th November
A reminder via email will be forwarded one week prior to the above dates.
Keep safe and healthy!
