FROM COLIN HUGHES – PRESIDENT
Fellow Scribes
Well, the rain has arrived at last, just before the hose pipe ban comes into effect here in Hampshire. We were lucky that the rain didn’t come earlier, as it could have put a dampener on our memorial unveiling Ceremony at Worthy Down on 28th May. The day was blustery but sunny and the ceremony went well, pictures appeared on Facebook, the ARNO Newsletter and hopefully will appear in the Navy News in due course.
It was a pleasure as usual, to attend the CNLO Operational and RN Logistics Award Ceremony also at Worthy Down together with our Treasurer, Pat Prior, to present the Writer of the Year Trophy to Logs(Wtr) Winicia Hazlewood, she and her partner are attending the Reunion Dinner as our guests on 10th October 2025, so please get your applications in the closing date is fast approaching.

FROM PAT PRIOR – TREASURER

There will be a raffle held during the dinner – donations for prizes will be gratefully received (bottles of alcohol tend to go well!). There will also be the obligatory 2 games of Heads or Tails, make sure you have your £1 coins ready.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS
If there are any volunteers to assume a role on the Committee – from President down, please let me know. Our rules and regulations state this this is required to happen at the AGM. We have a committee member standing down in October and would like a replacement to come forward – it is not an arduous role, meetings every other month by Zoom, other little bits of admin throughout the year – please let me know if you are interested.
MEMBERSHIP REPORT – BRENDA RYAN
The full membership details are on the minutes of the last meeting which you will have received electronically, currently we are standing at a total membership of 334. It is nice to see we have had a steady increase over the last couple of months, please encourage any scribes past or present to join us!
There are quite a few annual subscriptions still outstanding, please check the renewals list on the website, since taking over I have not yet had the time to do a full reconciliation against the bank account, I fully intend to do this during August, so if your name is on the list but you are sure you have paid, please wait until I have carried out the full reconciliation and if we believe that your annual subs are still outstanding we will contact you.
I wanted to let you know that as I am still working I only carry out membership duties on a Monday or a Friday and there are also times when I am away on those days, so if you don’t hear from me immediately, please bear with me, I promise I will get back to you as soon as I am able. I would say, if you have not heard back from me within 3 weeks, then please do not hesitate to contact me on bnr1@btinternet.com.
Looking forward to seeing a lot of you at the dinner in October.
One of our members – John Glover – sent this in to the RNWA:
Over the past couple of years, I have been researching and compiling a book about the lives and deaths of the men whose names appear on the Honours Board in HMS EAGLET, Liverpool RNR.
It is a detailed historical account commemorating the 89 officers and men of HMS EAGLE, Mersey Division RNVR who served and sacrificed their lives during World War I.
It explores the lives, service, and deaths of these individuals, providing a tribute to their bravery and dedication.
The title of the book is “More than just a name on a board”
This has now been published and is also available online through the RNR Officers’ Club, Liverpool website

I thought that fellow Writers might be interested, especially those with an interest in RNVR, RND or WW1 events.
